| It doesn't get much better than this. Vadis amps across the range have been amongst my favourites for many years, and this would be one of the best I've heard, and in about the best condition I've seen. Serial number is 1084, which places it in the 1960s according to the various other Vadis amps I have had here through the years. It's a model 409, using 5AR4 valve rectification and a pair of 6CA7s (essentially EL34s) in push-pull class A/B for an output of around 40 watts. Splitter is a 12AU7 while 4 x 12AX7s do the pre-amp and reverb-driving duties. It has both spring Reverb and a beautiful Tremolo (my favourite type, which oscillates the 6CA7s' bias rather than a straight amplitude oscillation for a much more 'organic' effect), both foot-switchable, and this tone then gets fed into a pair of my favourite Aussie speakers - original Rola 12PEG Alnico speakers - in a sealed-back cabinet. Absolute heaven. Plenty of creamy breakup from around 4 or 5 on the 1-10 scale, but it's always touch-sensitive and very playable. With my treasured Gilet Telecaster® with Kinman Broadcaster® pickups (above), it's just 100% Aussie home-grown tone that can easily hold a candle to the Yanks. This amp is in very good original condition, has been recently serviced by Tym Guitars in Brisbane, and it is powerful with plenty of 'sparkle'. I'll be gigging this one regularly! Grouse. The head measures 58cm(W) x 26cm(D) x 22cm(H) and weighs 13kg, while the box measures 75cm(H) x 58cm(W) x 26cm(D) and weighs 19kg. Sold to Andrew
