The date stamped on the choke is 6 April 1959, so here we have a very interesting (and fantastic sounding!) Maton amplifier. This model was originally fitted with 3 x 8" speakers, but the previous long-term owner changed the front baffle to accept two 10" Celestions. Maton probably shunned a single large driver at the time due to the rarity of drivers that would take the 30 (conservative) watts of the 2 x EL-34 amplifier. I had considered converting the amp to a single 12" or even 15", mainly because the amp was excessively bright in the condition as purchased by Grouse Guitars. However, since the amp went to a leading Melbourne amp tech for a service and attention to its non-functioning tremolo, it is sounding fantastic and extremely gutsy, so I will leave the speakers as they are. I will gig the amp until it sells. It sounds fantastic, looks cool, and is very, very giggable. A very rare Aussie classic! The amp weighs 21kg, and measures 52cm(H) x 54cm(W) x 24cm(D).
