Looking for collector guitars and basses can be a funny thing. After having owned a Maton G250 'Telecaster®' for years, and selling it many years ago, I had been looking for a long time for a matching B250 bass. I have always thought that the original '51 Precision Bass® (reissued as a "Telecaster Bass®" by Fender® back in 1968 (we sold one some time back) were about the coolest basses ever made. It follows then that the Maton equivalent would also be a cool bass! However, the search took many years, as the bass was made over three years ('71-'74) in a very limited run of only 66 examples! This is a 1972 example, carrying the serial number of 030. It's in its original transparent mahogany finish. The Goldline bass has a solid Mahogany body, which gives great tone and sustain without being terribly heavy. Just like the G250 Maton Tele® we sold, this bass displays the later double cutaway body style and the modified headstock design. I wonder if there was some pressure from Fender® back then to not make their copies quite so blatant? This bass has the normal wear marks to the body - check out the detailed photographs (link below). The bass comes in its original Stamford (made in Chatswood, Sydney) brown molded hard shell case, which shows a few battle scars but is still quite intact and usable. Sold to Phil
